Urban Safari Company runs small-group guided tours of Virginia's back roads, local history, craft breweries and farm-to-table stops — from a genuine South African Land Rover Defender 110. Six guests, never more. Based in Powhatan, just west of Richmond. Opening Fall 2026.
There is a week every autumn when the Piedmont catches fire — when the oaks along the back roads go copper and the air turns sharp enough to taste. Most people watch it through a windshield at sixty miles an hour.
Urban Safari Company was founded by a veteran who came home to Virginia and couldn't stop seeing what everyone else was driving past — the stories in the brick, the history in the hollows, the extraordinary hiding in plain sight. He decided to do something about it.
Alfie, newly arrived — Powhatan County, Virginia.
Every good expedition needs a good vehicle. Ours has a name. Alfie was christened by the South African family who kept her for twenty-six years, and she has crossed an ocean to spend the rest of her working life on the back roads of Virginia.
She is a Defender 110 — right-hand drive, built for terrain that doesn't forgive, and entirely uninterested in blending in. Twenty-six years with one family leaves a mark on a machine. You can feel it.
Her full story — the family, the miles, the crossing — coming soon.
We open in Fall 2026 — on purpose. There is no better season to see this country than when it's changing, and no better way to see it than from the seat of a safari truck built half a world away. The leaves are already counting down. So are we.
The diesel note of a true Land Rover — unhurried, unmistakable, mechanical perfection — as the backdrop to stories of Virginia's characters and follies, told mile by mile on the way to a brewery you would never have found on your own. Hidden among the treasures of history scattered across this old dominion.
You will experience something special. And you will learn something about this place.
That is the guaranteeSix seats per run. No spam — ever.
